Chilobrachys natanicharum (Electric Blue Earth Tiger)
The Electric Blue Earth Tiger is one of the most stunning discoveries in recent arachnology. Formerly known in the hobby as Chilobrachys sp. ‘Electric Blue’, it was officially described in 2023. It is famous for a unique biological phenomenon: the blue color is not produced by pigment, but by the structural nanostructures of its hair, which refract light into a metallic, neon blue.
Key Highlights
-
Neon Iridescence: The blue on this species is exceptionally vivid, appearing most intensely on the legs and chelicerae. Under the right lighting, they look almost bio-luminescent, shifting between deep violet and electric turquoise.
-
Master of Silk: As an “Earth Tiger,” this species is a heavy webber. They will rapidly colonize their enclosure with thick, architectural sheets of silk, creating a complex labyrinth of tunnels both above and below the substrate.
-
Old World Speed: Like most Asian fossorials, they are incredibly fast and can be very defensive. They possess medically significant venom and will not hesitate to give a threat posture if they feel cornered.
-
Unique Origin: Found in the mangrove forests and tropical jungles of Thailand, they are adapted to a life of high humidity and subterranean living.
